About
Unlike other swapping sites out there that swaps unwanted goods, The Swap Shop dot net allows people to swap skills with each other. The idea is to allow people the forum to allow them to help each other.
The idea actually came from listening to an episode of the ‘Daily Source Code’ (a podcast presented by Adam Curry), where he was discussing the Credit Crunch. As of course money for most people is tight, I realised that there must be many people out there with a selection of skills, but not the necessary skills needed to complete a project they are working on. In turn, these people would then offer their skills as ‘payment’. The Swap Shop was born.
After the first attempt where there was a load of spam submitted to the system, I decided that the only way to be able to manage the system effectively was to go from a ‘free’ service to a ‘pay per post’ scheme. This is now the final result. The money will cover the running costs of the site, with anything left over being donated to three charities: Cancer Research, Oxfam, and The Scouts Association. At the end of the day this is not a ‘get rich scheme’, but instead answer to a problem we are all facing.
I hope that everyone can be helped with this site, and in turn, help each other through this difficult financial time we are in!
Take care, and happy swapping!
