How it Works

George the Gardener was looking to try and market himself to gain more business. He was looking at producing some leaflets to post around his local area, but after looking at the price of designing and printing his leaflets – he realised that he could only afford the printing costs, but not the design work. So he decided to ‘post a swap’ on The Swap Shop and offered his gardening skills as ‘payment’ for someone to design his leaflets.

In the meantime, Diana the Designer had just popped on to The Swap Shop to kill some time at work between client appointments. She found George’s ‘Swap Request’ and decided to offer her services to design his leaflet in exchange for his gardening skills. She had recently moved to a new house, and so it was an ideal opportunity for her to get started sorting the place out.

Diana sent an email to George via the ‘Swap Requests’ contact form, and waited for Georges’ reply. A few emails back and forth later, they had agreed a deal to ensure both got what they wanted, and neither were out of pocket.

While Diana was designing the leaflet, George popped back on to The Swap Shop and posted another ‘Swap Request’ to find someone to deliver his leaflets. Within the few days it took to arrange the first swap with Diana, work had picked up, and so he was unable to deliver the leaflets personally like he had originally thought. So through The Swap Shop, he found Adrian the Architect whose son needed one weeks work experience for a school project.

Adrian agreed to allow little Jimmy to deliver the leaflets for George, and George needed the help. After the swaps were completed, George was able to give little Jimmy a weekend job to help with the new work that was coming in from the leaflets Diana designed. Diana also became a regular paying customer of George as she was very impressed with his work.

All in all, through The Swap Shop, everyone was able to gain the benefit of others without spending a penny.
